Bring Life Back to Your Yard with Our Aeration and Seeding Solutions
Our aeration and overseeding service involves removing small plugs of grass and soil throughout the lawn then spreading seed over the lawn.
Aeration opens up space for water, oxygen, and nutrients to penetrate the lawn and reach the roots.
Overseeding helps thicken thin and bare areas and to introduce new grass to your existing lawn. Overseeding provides the perfect maintenance needed to maintain a healthy green lawn.
HEALTHIER LAWN
Benefits of Lawn Aeration and Overseeding
Core Aeration & Overseeding your lawn encourages roots to grow deeper and helps limit thatch levels in the lawn. Plugs of soil are removed from your lawn and deposited on top of the turf, and will organically break down over one or two weeks. This process is best done in early fall in conjunction with an application of fertilizer. This will help get nutrients to the root zone of your lawn.
The best result of aeration is that compacted soil becomes loose, which means that the roots can deepen and spread easy, forming a network of roots that will withstand heat and drought better than before. The openings that are punched into the soil and thatch allows prevention of the spread of fungal diseases and enhances the growth of microorganisms that digest lawn thatch. An aerated lawn also permits fertilizer and water to reach the plant roots, which will also help with healthy growth.
Aerating your lawn will aid in weed prevention, as well as keep your lawn looking lush. Not only functional, but beautiful too!
AERATION
For those unfamiliar with core aeration, this is the same service that is performed on golf course greens. It is a process that extracts “plugs” of existing soil and deposits them on the surface of the lawn.
The aeration service relieves soil compaction allowing grass roots to expand. Allows air, sunlight, rain/water, fertilizer and nutrients to penetrate deep into the root system where it is needed. It brings microorganisms to the surface. While they are working their way back into the soil, they help to break up the thatch layer that can accumulate on the surface of the soil. The cores (plugs) break up over a week or so, providing a light “top dressing” of fresh soil, which also aids in the decomposition of any accumulating thatch. The aerator holes create a moist, protected, environment for seedling growth.
It permits the root system to go deeper where the ground temperature is cooler and more moist, allowing the grass to stay greener longer in the heat of the summer.
OVERSEEDING
Aeration will allow the seeding process to be better received by your lawn. For the best results, we recommend that seeding be done following an aeration or verticutting. This will allow you to create a seed bed by loosening the soil with the aeration or verticutting, thus allowing you the most “seed to soil” contact, which is crucial to seed germination.
The best time to do seeding is in the fall! By following the natural life cycle of most grasses, which go to seed during summer and then germinate in the early fall, you will get the best, most vigorous stands of grass. Competition is at its lowest point of the year from weeds and insect pests and you also avoid the chance of newly seeded grass from getting burned in the hot summer months.
